Rachel Goetting, Senior Airwaves Writer, Fitness Expert
Since starting sailing at the age of eight Rachel’s love and dedication for sailing has grown. She grew up in Media, Pennsylvania, but spent her summers in Cape May, New Jersey where she learned to sail. Rachel’s passion for sailing lead her to become a US Sailing Level 3 Coach. She has ran several junior sailing programs in New Jersey. Currently, she is the Program Director at Bay Head Yacht in the summer.
Rachel’s other passion is fitness and nutrition. She is both a NASM personal trainer and AASDN nutrition specialist. Her most recent venture has been to combine all her passions together. Rachel and her husband Matt founded Sailorcise; fitness, nutrition, and coaching for sailors. Currently, Sailorcise is coaching high school sailing teams in central New Jersey. With Sailorcise, Rachel hopes to get young active sailors excited about fitness and nutrition to help maximize their performance on the water. You can reach Rachel at rachel @ sail1design .com
Taylor Penwell, Senior Airwaves Writer
Taylor Penwell grew up sailing on Maryland’s eastern shore sailing out of the Miles River Yacht Club, Tred Avon Yacht Club, and the Annapolis Yacht Club. Taylor is a College of Charleston graduate and was a member of the Cougars Offshore Sailing Team. He is currently the race coach for the British Virgin Islands Yacht Club in Tortola, BVI. Mac Dickson, Airwaves Writer, One-Design
McCloy (Mac) Dickson is a rising Junior majoring in Communications at the College of Charleston. He is from Alexandria, VA and has spent years working and sailing in the Annapolis, MD area. This spring he was elected co-captain of the College of Charleston Sailing Team.
Mac has operated a photography business since his sophomore year of high school. His work has since won international awards, and has been featured in many digital publications with a concentration in the sailing industry. Mac joined the Sail1Design team in June 2017 after his team won the Fowle Trophy – awarded to the best collegiate sailing team in the country. He contributes to the administration of social media accounts and writing Airwaves Articles with a focus in the growth of youth sailing as well as new and noteworthy one-design classes. Andrew Kerr, Airwaves writer, Coach
Andrew Kerr was born in Plymouth, Devon, England and graduated from the London School of Economics with a bachelor’s degree in Government and politics. He is a resident of Olympia, Washington and his wife Stephanie, a former America’s cup sailor with the America 3 team, has a Doctorate from the University of Idaho in Sports Pedagogy. They have two children- Liam and Kellen and enjoy family sailing on their Santana 20 and Laser’s. A full time coach, seminar speaker & North U instructor, Andrew has given seminars all over the world for a wide variety of groups, classes and yacht clubs.
Clinton Hayes, ICSA Team Race Rankings/ TR Guru
Clinton is Assistant Coach at Stanford University. In his first season at Stanford, the Cardinal produced a league first, winning all six fall and spring Pacific Coast Collegiate Sailing Conference championships. The Cardinal went on to finish eighth at the team and coed nationals and was 13th in the women’s race.
Hayes was the interim head coach at Rhode Island in 2011, leading the Rams to the women’s national title. It was the Rams’ first title since 1976. Hayes previously served as an assistant at Vermont, where he starred as a sailor for the Catamounts.
Hayes led the Catamounts to their first ever spring final after a third-place finish in the Eastern Semifinals his sophomore season in 2008. Hayes was named a coed All-American in 2010 and was an honorable mention selection as a sophomore. He sailed the Catamounts to a second-place finish in the A Division of both the 2008 and 2010 national championships. Hayes was also a two-time all-conference selection, earning first-team honors as a senior and second-team status his second season.
Hayes, a native of East Haddam, Conn., sailed for the Pettipaug Yacht Club on the Connecticut river while racing Optis, Lasers and 420’s. Hayes is an active team racer and has competed at both the U.S. Sailing team races and the British Open Championship for the Wilson Trophy.
Tom Sitzmann, Sail1Design Professional Brokerage & Job Board Coordinator
A lifelong sailor, Tom Sitzmann brings a broad range of sailing experience to Sail1Design. Along with extensive one-design and PHRF racing, he has coastal and blue water experience, cruising and racing along the coast of Maine, and now here in the Chesapeake Bay on the family J/120.
Also a lifelong educator, Tom has coached sailing and directed sailing programs from Maine to Annapolis, and was an assistant offshore & dinghy coach at the USNA, head intercollegiate coach at Bowdoin College, and more recently head coach at Severn School, where he guided the team to a National championship, the first and only Chesapeake Bay school ever to win the prestigious Mallory Trophy.
Tom’s offshore experience includes many distance races in New England, a transatlantic passage, a celestially-guided Marion-Bermuda Race, and most recently he brought his family to Bermuda aboard their J/120 Airwaves.
Tom has a great deal of dinghy and PHRF racing experience, competing successfully in the Laser, J/24, and J/22, winning several regional and district championships in those classes, both in New England and the Mid-Atlantic. While in Maine Tom also won several PHRF regattas aboard his J/24 & J/33, and more recently in his J/120.

Tom started Sail1Design in 2007, seeking to supply the youth, high school, college, and one-design sailing communities with a grass-roots, community marketplace and job board. Ten years later, S1D has become sailings #1 career center and job board, it’s active marketplace now offers professional yacht brokerage along with by-owner classified ads. Additionally, Airwaves, an e-newsstand for sailors, was born and joined the Sail1Design team to provide sailing news and regatta results, and has four writers on staff. Sail1Design is the official job board for the Intercollegiate Sailing Association (ICSA), the Interscholastic Sailing Association (ISSA), and US Sailing.
