The entry deadline of Thursday 15 April for the 2010 Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championship is fast approaching.
More than 300 young sailors from 60 nations are expected at the 40th edition of the ISAF Youth World Championship, which will be hosted by Istanbul, Turkey from 8–17 July 2010.

Entry forms must be completed by ISAF Member National Authorities and returned to the Organizing Committee no later than Thursday 15 April. Late entries can not be accepted and no entries will be considered without full payment. Sailor’s participating on the Athlete Participation Programme need to make full payment at the time of entering.

Accommodation and equipment are only guaranteed to teams submitting an entry form and the championship fee by the 15 April 2010 deadline.

All MNA’s who have submitted a registration of interest to the organizing authority should have received the registration documents. For any registration queries please contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it at the ISAF Secretariat.

The venue for the 2010 Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championship will be the Atakoy Marina, located on the European Coast of Istanbul at the southern end of the Bosphorus Strait. The Marina falls within the Bakirköy district of Istanbul, and is very well connected being just 8km from Atatürk International Airport. In 2010 Istanbul will also be the joint European cultural capital.

The racing area will be the Marmara Sea which should provide ideal sailing conditions for the championship. The predominant wind conditions in July are from the north east at a speed between 10 and 15 knots. Temperatures vary between 25ºC and 30ºC during the day and around 20ºC at night time. The sea water temperature in the summer is between 23ºC and 25ºC.

Event Director Gülden Aktugan said: "The city of Istanbul is looking forward to welcoming the world’s elite youth sailors. We are very busy with the preparations at the Atakoy Marina where the dinghy parks, regatta village and entertainment stage will all be located. We are also celebrating Istanbul as Europe’s joint Cultural Capital for 2010 and the Youth Worlds will be the centre piece for the summer’s sporting events and are working hard to encourage spectators to visit the venue and join in the festivities.”

The Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championship not only provides the top young sailors from around the world with a chance to shine on the international stage – it also gives the sailing world a sneak preview of its future stars.
